Skincare for beginners or a tight budget

Gone are the days when skin care used to be luxury. Now thankfully, it’s a different story. Whether you’re looking for an anti-aging serum or SPF, there are plenty of brands out there that prove you don’t need to splurge on luxurious skin care to see results. If you are unsure about how to put together a skincare routine, here’s a basic routine for BEGINNERS and those on a tight BUDGET.

KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE

Know your skin type

There’s nothing as frustrating as being consistent in your skin routine and not noticing any change or improvements. That could be because you are using products that are not designed for your skin type.  knowing and understanding your skin type will definitely help you in choosing the best skin regime that caters to your specific skin needs. It is important to know your skin type before adventuring into a skin care routine. For example, if you have an oily skin, it is advisable to avoid oil-based products and use water-based products instead, so as to balance the amount of water and oil in your skin.

Treating your skin with the wrong products can lead to irritation, breakouts and premature aging.

CLEANSE

Cleanse

Washing your face with a mild cleanser twice a day (morning and night) helps remove excess oil, sweat, dirt and dead skin cells that buildup during repairs at night. Cleansing helps in unclogging pores and exfoliating the top skin cells. They come in different forms, and it’s important to chose one that works best for your skin type, could be micellar water, or foaming gels or even wipes, yes wipes!.

TONE

A toner removes any last traces of excess oil, dirt and impurities stuck in your pores after cleansing. Toning restores your skin’s pH balance, smoothens the skin by refining rough patches, prepares the skin to better absorb moisture and improves skin tone.

MOISTURIZE

Moisturizing your skin improves skin hydration and seals the skin, locking in moisture and nutrients while protecting the skin from environmental irritatants.

PROTECT

It’s always important to put on a broad spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and has an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 15 or higher before you go outside as it prevents sunburns, skin cancer and premature aging. However, picking an SPF should depend on how much time you spend outdoors.

Nb: using corresponding skin care products from the same brand can benefit your skin alot, as they are formulated to work incredibly together.
