The first lady of Cameroon’s history, Mrs Germaine Ahidjo passed away during the night of April 19-20, 2021, at the age of 89. Germaine Habiba Ahidjo was born in Mokolo in 1932, to Hawa, wife of Yaya Boubawa, a nurse at the Mokolo hospital.
In 1942, she obtained her school certificate in Yaounde. She later joined the Girls College of Douala. In 1947, through Louis Paul Aujoulat, she was awarded a scholarship to study in France, where she graduated as a state nurse in 1952 and specialised in tropical diseases at the Pasteur Institute in 1953.
En 1955, she met Ahmadou Ahidjo and got married on August 17, 1957. They had three daughters with him: Babette, Aissatou and Aminatou. She also had a son named Daniel Toufick, born before her marriage to President Ahidjo. After the resignation of her husband, in 1982 and was sentenced to death as a result of her supposed involvement in the failed coup of 1984, they moved to Dakar, Senegal where she lived until her death this April 2021.
